Revision Tips

Better Spelling!

Although we increasingly rely on computers correcting our speeling mistrakes, it's still pretty important to spell words correctly!

This section has a number of useful hints and tips that will help you become a better speller.

Spelling Mnemonics

We've started compiling some spelling mnemonics to help you learn tricky words. Take a look and submit your own!

101 GCSE Spellings

N.B. these are UK-English not US-English spellings!

Here we present a list of 101 words. If you don't know what they mean, look them up in a dictionary. It's hard to say how many you should be able to spell if you're aiming for a particular grade, but we think that this is a good rule of thumb:

GradeCorrect Spelling
A*90
A85
B75
C65

Print the list and get someone to test you. When you spell something wrongly:

  1. write the word correctly once
  2. look carefully at it
  3. cover it up with your hand
  4. write it out again
  5. repeat this 5 times for each word you get wrong

Right, click here for the list. Good luck!
