Weight Answer 1

1. The surface gravity of Mars is 3·7 N/kg. On Earth it is 9·8 N/kg. Beagle 2, the unsuccessful British space probe, had a mass of 30 kg.

Calculate the weight of Beagle 2:

  1. on the Earth before launch.
    W = m × g = 30 × 9·8 = 294 N
  2. on the surface of Mars.
    W = m × g = 30 × 3·7 = 111 N
