GCSE German

Reading Exam: Preparing

Build the vocab!

Do not leave it until the last minute! The key to success with foreign languages is building lots of vocabulary.

As you follow your GCSE German course, keep your own vocab lists - in a vocab book, in the back of your exercise book or file.

You should refer to, revise and refresh these lists regularly. When you have revised them twice or even three times, there is a good chance that you will remember them forever!

When working through exercises in class, have pencil in your hand to jot down the meaning of any new words. This is not being swotty - it is what committed linguists do!

Make absolutely sure that you know all the question words in German (right):

GermanEnglish
Wann?When?
Warum?Why?
Was?What?
Was für?What kind of?
Wer?Who?
Wie?How?
Wie viel?How much?
Wie viele?How many?
Wo?Where?
