Measurement Summary

GCSE Maths

Length is normally measured in metres, written m.

We can have larger or smaller units of length by inserting a prefix before the unit letter: e.g. kilometres (km), centimetre (cm), etc.

Area is measured in square units, such as , cm² etc.
1 m² contains 10,000 cm²!

Volume is measured in cubic units, such as , cm³ etc.
1 m³ contains 1,000,000 cm³!

The litre is a useful unit for measuring volumes of liquids.
1 L = 1 dm³ or 1,000 cm³.

There are 1,000 L in 1 m³.
