Percent is per-cent or per-one hundred.

100% is the whole thing (1), 1% is one-hundredth.

Percentages can be expressed as a decimal or a fraction:
50% = 0.5 = 50/100 = 1/2
etc.

To find a percentage, write the fraction and multiply by 100.
e.g. Ben scored 42/80 in a test. What percentage is this?
42/80×100 = 52.5%
