Half Life

Scientists find it useful to talk about the half life of a radioactive sample. This is a measure of time:

Half life is the time taken for half the nuclei in a sample to decay.

Of course, in the same time, the count rate will have fallen by exactly a half. So we can also say:

Half life is the time taken for the radioactivity to fall to half its initial value.
