AQA's PSA (Practical Skills Assessment)

The PSA is not something to get very worried about, but there are a few things that you should be aware of. Knowing what your teacher will be looking for is key to success here!

AQA would like you to be assessed "throughout the course on the implementation of practical work," so you can be graded by your teachers on a scale from 0 to 6. This can happen at any time during the course as you do practicals.

The Basics

You should be able to work:

• with equipment properly and carefully
• methodically and in an organised way
• safely and considerately

The Marks

Your score will be based on how well your approach fits these three descriptions:

Level	Conducts Practicals Safely:	Apparatus is used:
2	... but with help to work in an organised manner.	... with assistance.
4	... and in a reasonably organised manner.	... skilfully and without the need for assistance.
6	... and in a well-organised manner.	... skilfully in a demanding context.

Most pupils will be scoring at least 4 marks. In this case, they would achieve each of the two criteria for level 2 and 4. Only achieving one part of level 4 would score you 3 marks.
