The joule (J)

The joule is named after the British physicist, James Joule (1818-89), who gave us a much greater understanding of energy.

1 joule = 1 newton metre
1 J = 1 Nm

It is the work done when a force of 1 N is moved through 1 m.

When work is done, we transfer energy from one type to another.
