Since power is such an important quantity, we also use the watt (W) for its unit:

1 W = 1 J/s
1 watt = 1 joule/second

The watt is named after the British inventor and instrument maker, James Watt (1736-1819).

He was the man who perfected the steam engine, kick-starting the entire industrial revolution!
