The Apostrophe '

The humble apostrophe is used wrongly and inappropriately more often than any other punctuation mark!

Most people are happy to ignore apparently complex marks like semicolons and dashes. These people are also happy to put apostrophes all over the place for no apparent reason!

The confusion results from its use to indicate possession, but crucially not all the time.
