Tan

Let's have a look at tan in action. Below is a simple right-angle triangle with a 45° angle marked. Remember "sohcahtoa"!

By definition , tan 45°

 

tan 45°

= opposite÷adjacent

= 3÷3

= 1

Tan 45° will always equal 1, but only applies to right angle triangles.
