Isotopes

Nuclei that have the same number of protons (Z) but different numbers of neutrons are called isotopes.

Tritium has an unstable nucleus - the forces holding the proton and neutrons together are weak. They will decay, so are radioactive.

We sometimes call radioactive isotopes radioisotopes (for obvious reasons!)
