Atoms naturally occur throughout the universe. That's rather lucky for us, as we are each made of many trillions of atoms!

We can build atoms out of protons, neutrons and electrons. However, only certain combinations manage to stay together.

We call atoms which don't stay together unstable.

To become more stable, atoms sometimes break apart, either throwing bits of themselves off, or releasing energy as waves.
