How did you get on? Alternatives aren't always obvious:

  1. COURT TO TRY SHOOTING DEFENDANT
    When shooting is read as a verb, it makes you think the court are going to shoot the defendant!
    When you read shooting as an adjective, it makes you aware of what the defendant is being accused of.
     
  2. PRISON FOR DROWNING CHILD
    When drowning is read as an adjective, it makes you think a drowning child is going to be sent to prison.
    When drowning is read as a verb, it makes you aware of why the prisoner is being sentenced.
     
  3. NEW YORK DOCTOR SACKED
    When new is read as a proper noun it refers to the city name.
    When new is read as an adjective it describes a doctor from York.
