AQA's ISA (Individual Skills Assignments)This is by far the most important aspect of the CAU. It is worth 34 marks in total and consists of two parts: a practical investigation and a written paper. PlanningBefore you carry out the practical, your teacher will introduce the experiment to you. You will then plan what you will investigate and (carefully!) produce a table which you will use to record your data. This table is worth 2 marks and it's quite easy to get this right first time. DoingYou will carry out the practical in the second lesson and record measurements in your table - which your teacher will have kept and marked. Then you have to produce a suitable graph of your results. The graph is worth 4 marks and again it's reasonably easy to get most of these marks if you are careful. Analysing and EvaluatingThis is the big one and it's worth 24 marks! You will be given back your table and graph to help you answer a written exam in two parts. The first part will assess your understanding of your practical. The second part will ask you questions about a related, but perhaps more sophisticated, experiment.
You will need to be clear in your use of scientific language. Our AQA Glossary Guide will provide you with a significant advantage. |
