AQA Science: Glossary - Range

The maximum and minimum values of the independent or dependent variables; important in ensuring that any pattern is detected.

For example a range of distances may be quoted as either:
"From 10cm to 50 cm"
or
"From 50 cm to 10 cm".

e.g. Zack's range for his ball height was only from 50 to 60 cm in 1 cm intervals. Zoe's range was from 50 to 150 cm in 10 cm intervals.

  1. Explain why Zack's range was not appropriate to show a clear pattern in his results.
